The indie darling Cult of the Lamb is leaning heavily into its life-sim elements with the announcement of its next major story expansion, Woolhaven. Described as a “massive, full-length” addition, the new DLC trades the “steamy” focus of the previous update, Sins of the Flesh, for a cozy-meets-survival challenge with clear farming sim and Stardew Valley influences—but with the trademark dark, cultish twist.

Set for release in Early 2026 on all platforms (PC, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation), Woolhaven is reportedly almost the length of the original game, signifying a huge push in content for developer Massive Monster.

Key Features of the Woolhaven Expansion

The new expansion centers on the Lamb’s journey to a towering, mysterious mountain that has long loomed in the background of the game’s map. A forgotten deity, Yngya, the God of the lambs, calls for the Lamb’s help to rebuild the lost home of the lambkin.

1. New Cult Management: Ranching and Winter Survival

  • Ranching Mechanic: This is the major new feature, adding a farming sim layer to the cult base. Players can tame, breed, and raise rare animals—which can be a source of wool for warmth, or, in a true Cult of the Lamb fashion, precious meat for desperate times. Followers can be assigned to the new ranching tasks.
  • Survive the Winter: The expansion introduces environmental threats, including harsh blizzards and freezing temperatures. The Lamb must construct new structures to keep followers warm and protect the cult from frostbite and famine.

2. New Story and Dungeons: On the Mountain

  • Explore The Mountain: Players venture into a new snowy realm ravaged by storms and a spreading corruption called the Rot.
  • Two New Dungeons: The expansion adds two vast new dungeons, complete with new enemies, new weapons, and powerful new bosses, including a mysterious wolf and a familiar shadowy figure.
  • Rebuild Woolhaven: The primary objective is to restore the fallen town of Woolhaven, the spiritual home of the lambs, to uncover the forgotten history of the lambkind.

Why the Change to Paid DLC?

Massive Monster has been incredibly generous with free content updates, but the studio has confirmed that Woolhaven will be a paid expansion. They justified this by stating the DLC is simply too large to be a free update, noting that the content is so expansive it “almost doubles the gameplay from the original release.”

The announcement trailer, which included an overview of the new ranching gameplay, has generated significant excitement for fans ready to embrace the cozy-and-creepy mix of running a deadly cult while also tenderly caring for their ranch animals (before potentially butchering them, of course).
